Culture Improvement Program

It is no secret to the most forward thinking leaders that culture drives performance.  In Corporate Culture and Performance, John P. Kotter and James L. Heskett show that companies with strong adaptive cultures, based on shared values outperformed other companies by a significant margin.

In Profitability & Well-Being: Measure What Matters Most, we add credence to that perspective, and share the eight intangible assets that are meaningful to our most successful clients’ people. These assets are: Purpose, Values, Security, Talent, Excellence, Trust, Learning, and Openness.

This article also describes our organizational Culture Improvement Program that allows you to link the improvement of these intangible assets that make up your culture to your profitability.

“I have had an amazing career with many opportunities to contribute to the success of the organizations I have worked for, but nothing has been as personally rewarding as leading our cultural improvement process over the last couple of years.   As a CFO I am always focused on the bottom line and although I cannot provide quantitative validation I have no doubt that the work we’ve done learning to lead with our hearts, and hold ourselves accountable to our purpose, our mission, and our values, has contributed greatly to moving us from breakeven to $2 million +  of profitability.”
Georgia Fine  CFO, Portco Packaging

How does this program work?

  1. Initially we customize our survey questions to use your language to best discover how your people rate their experience of what is meaningful to them. We also add one or two questions to address your specific concerns beyond our eight intangible assets.
  2. We initiate the program with a quarterly survey to assess where your culture is strongest and where it needs the most improvement.
  3. We meet with your Leadership Team to review the data and comments and identify specific improvements that will strengthen one or more of your intangible assets.
  4. We provide a summary of the survey results that includes the Leadership Team’s action plan for the next quarter to all of your employees.
  5.  Each quarter we repeat steps 2 – 4 while assessing how well your culture improvements are impacting performance and profitability.
  6. As your people feel heard and responded to, their enthusiasm and responsiveness grows. Everyone discovers that strengthening your intangible assets improves the quality of everyone’s work experience, as well as your profitability.
